Artist Bio
Violin virtuoso, Volodja Balzalorsky, from Ljubljana, Slovenia, first has made his reputation as one of the most distinguished violinists of the former Yugoslavia.
He performs internationally as a solo violinist, recitalist, and chamber musician, for which he consistently receives outstanding acclaim.

Numerous highly praised concerts, broadcasts, CD and TV recordings in various countries, have established his reputation as an artist with a sensitive, intelligent, and intuitive gift of interpretation, a polished technique, and a rich, full tone.

After his successful performance in the international cycle, Violin Virtuosos, in Belgrade in 1988, the esteemed critic in former Yugoslavia, Slobodan Turlakov, defined his artistic personality with the following words:

”Volodja Balzalorsky is passionately devoted to violin, inspired by the flame which distinguishes the most refined and authentic violinists capable of building the dramaturgy of musical works in the most natural and persuasive manner. His interpretation calls for an exalted and compassionate listener, which is the distinction of rare and predestined musicians...”

Bologna, Italy; Ost-West Musikfestival, Krems, Austria; Midi Minimes Summer Festival, Brussels, Belgium; Violin virtuosos, Belgrade, Yugoslavia; Music Festival Aberystwyth, United Kingdom; Biennale Zagreb, Croatia; Neuburger Barockkonzerte, Germany; International Summer Festival Groblje, Slovenia; Festival of Contemporary Music Radenci, Slovenia; Anuska Concerts, Prague; Lisinski subotom, Zagreb, Croatia; Konzerte in Bösendofer Saal and in Tabakmuseum in Vienna; Summer Festival Histria, Pula, Croatia; Neuesjahrkonzerte, Freiburg,Germany; International Festival-Ohrid Summer, Macedonia; International festival of contemporary music Forfest Kromeriz, Czech Republic; Concerts of Interlochen Arts Centre, Michigan, USA; and, he was a guest of the International Summer Festival in his home town Ljubljana several times.

SOLOIST WITH ORCHESTRA

As a soloist, he performs with a variety of orchestras, including the Slovenian Philharmonic, the Slovenian Symphony Orchestra, the Moravian-Silesian Chamber Orchestra, the Gaudeamus Orchestra of Zagreb, the Dubrovnik Chamber Orchestra, the “Freiburger barocksolisten” etc.

CHAMBER MUSIC

Volodja Balzalorsky is particurally active in the field of chamber music.He works with many groups and ensembles, and for several years has successfully performed in DUO with pianists Christoph Theiler and Hinko Haas. Critics comment on the degree to which he is able to develop and maintain unity with his musical partners in this milieu, presenting “...an exceptional harmony of ease and authenticity of performance.”

He is a member of the Amael Piano Trio, artistic director of Ensemble Ouverture (contemporary music), the Concert Master of the Freiburger Barocksolisten, (Germany), The Ljubljana Trio (violin, flute, harpsichord) and The Trio Balzalorsky, Kobal, Saje (violin, flute, guitar)

One specialty is the development of a repertoire for violin solo and percussions, which recently connected him with renowned American percussionist Amy Lynn Barber, with whom he performed in the Percussion Plus Project in Prague and Venice and at the Interlochen Arts Centre in the USA, with the Interlochen Percussion Ensemble.
Balzalorsky's special interests include the promotion of contemporary music; several known composers have written music specifically for him to perform.

CD`s

Publishing houses of Helidon, RTV Slovenia, The Spectrum society records, Orfej records- Croatia and Bauer studio records-Germany, have issued his recordings on CD,s and LP.

BROADCASTING

Volodja Balzalorsky has made extensive live and archival radio and TV recordings throughout Europe as well as in the USA.
He recorded for the radio stations in Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Yugoslavia and in USA- Radio of Interlochen Arts Centre, Michigan.
He has also appeared on television in various countries: TV Slovenia (several times), TV Croatia, National TV of Czech Republic, TV Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) TV Pristine and TV Novi Sad (Yugoslavia).

TEACHING

Professor of Violin at the Academy of Music of the Ljubljana University, and he regularly gives Master Classes in Great Britain, Italy, Croatia, USA and Slovenia.
His pupils have won many first prizes and awards, both nationally and internationally.

STUDIES

Volodja Balzalorsky studied in Cologne, Moscow and Vienna with Josef Suk, Igor Ozim, Galina Barinova and Amadeus Quartett
