"It's like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Dwight Yoakam had a baby, and then Hank Williams, Jr. and Van Halen had a baby. And those two babies grew up and had a baby. Then, Johnny Cash and Billy Joe Shaver took turns kicking that baby's ass. That's pretty much what my music is."--Trent Holloway.
Born and raised on the outskirts of Savannah, GA, Trent Holloway grew up with hammer in one hand and a guitar in the other. The oldest son of a construction worker, he grew up in a non-musical family. But at fourteen, his affair with the guitar became a serious relationship, and his whole world changed. A proud son of the South, Trent found his away around the fretboard learning great Southern rock guitar licks of the '70's. After earning a business degree from Georgia Southern University, he went to work in the family construction business. Trent had been exposed to country music his entire life; but, as the harsh realities of the work world set in, Trent noticed a strong similarity between his life and those country songs he had been hearing for years. His guitar playing and songwriting quickly began to reflect his own experiences and slowly developed into his signature style.
During those developmental years, the majority of Trent's performance opportunities were at church and local family festivals. However, his candid and honest approach to songwriting was not always met with open arms. Discouraged with the local music market at the time, Trent made several trips to Nashville, TN. There, Trent finally began to find others who appreciated the clever honesty in his well-crafted songs. Though the acceptance was appealing, Trent's youth and naivety ran head-on into the ugly politics of the music industry. Again discouraged, he retreated to the studio where he honed his skills as a musician, trading his services for studio time to record his own music.
With the release of his first studio album, Tonk Honky, on Trashville Records, Trent Holloway has finally broken the chains of musical frustration. You can find him branding grateful audiences with his own red-hot, non-stop guitar licks as he deals out some witty originals and interesting cover tunes expressing emotions that range from forlorn to frustrated to downright side-splitting hysterical. |
