Artist Bio
Multi-instrumentalist Hadrian Mordecai formed the spectacle experiment in early 2001 as a venture into the soundscapes forged by such artists as Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Doves, and Death In Vegas. Featuring a guest lineup in both the studio and on stage, the project is known for it's chaotic live performances and anything goes approach to music.
Although the official live debut of the spectacle experiment came in September of 2001, Hadrian initially performed early material for the project in a solo acoustic format during Fall 2000. In January 2001 a loop sequencer, operated by Nicole Finner, was added for an impromptu opening for Philadelphia based Tapping the Vein under the name The Spectacle. The minimalist but passionate delivery left the audience in awe.

Spring of 2001 the project was renamed the spectacle experiment and a three song promo of "Thrown Away" along with "Too Late" and "Holding On" was released. Formerly an experimental piano composition, this recording of "Thrown Away" featured dense electronic and guitar layers, a format also seen in "Too Late". By contrast, the hypnotic "Holding On" was recorded almost solely on guitar, the only exceptions being the synthetic strings and electronic drums. This final song on the CD marks Hadrian's move from electronics to an organic, guitar based structure as seen in more recent live performances and recordings.

Evolving further towards this new sound, the offical live debut in September 2001 featured Hadrian on vocals and electric guitar, Ben Ross (Philipshead) on second guitar along with Nicole and the trusty sequencer. The sonic fury of guitar abuse had the audience rushing for earplugs and copies of the promo CD during a three month string of performances.

Back in the studio for the winter of 2002 tracking began for a debut full length album of new songs and new recordings of the promo songs. Tracks on the album feature Ben Ross, Damian Gonzalez (Burning Up White, Como Drive), Scott Wilson (Burning Up White, former Number Theory), Stephan Quaranta (Zelda Pinwheel), Liz Gonzalez (the DustMites, Trio of Madness), and MaryAnn Wilson (Burning Up White). Release is set for January 2003 on 114 Music. A promo CD with Just Like You and several b-sides featuring is being distributed at select performances.

Press Reviews
"A dark, moody, low-key wrist-slitter, 'One More Day' is a Church-like dirge of Cure-ish defeat capped with a soaring, Radiohead-dense wall of self-immolation while 'Just Like You' blasts like a Godfathers/Sidewinders time warp to a mid-'60s San Francisco garage. 'Free Nights,' which features Ben Ross of Philipshead and Zelda Pinwheel's Stephen Quaranta, floats on wings woven of the finest cannabis." - ECR Nov 12 2002
