David”Mack”Mckinney
David “Mack” Mckinney is one of Hartford's Most sought after and versatile musician/singers from the Ct. area. Fluent in all styles of popular dance music, his philosophy is to never let the customer down. David's group comes in all different sizes. From a seven piece full band with horns or a hard driving five piece rhythm section. The band also breaks down to an intimate three or two piece acoustic type dinner band, or even Dave alone as a solo. In 1997 David's Group “Funk Food” won Hartford Advocate's Best Funk Band Category and the David Mack Band which was born out of Funk Food has played Nearly every weekend since. David has been called one of the hardest working entertainers in Hartford and labeled a local legend by local motion columnist Michael Marciano.
By the time David was old to drive he began playing club's in the downtown Hartford are with his band The Crew in the early 80's, as well playing in the Hartford All-City Jazz ensemble directed under the lengendary William Zarriff. After High school he went on to study music at the coveted Guitar Institute of Technolgy in Los Angelos Ca. under the likes of Jeff Berlin, Scott Henderson, and Jennifer Batten. During his first year he went to audition for South African show Band “Samaki And the Variations. Dave got the gig and toured North America for nine months In support of their hit single “ Can't stop the Break” during all the Break Dancing Craze of the eighties. David returned home in '87 and played in groups of his own as well as in the Mass Area. By 1993 David Joined Cool Running's replacing Mikey Chung formerly of Reggae group Black Uhuru. Cool Runnings went on to winning awards for Hartford's Best reggae for five years straight until leaving to form his own group which is Now not only a band but many other things. David's expertise in production earned a position in Gospel music. Every Sunday At the Horace Bushnell church David was employed as Chief Engineer in charge Of making sure the live radio broadcast was put on for 910 jams radio station. He opened his own recording studio and produced, written and performed on five CD's since it's opening in 1998.
A proffesional is what is needed for any and all types of musical situation. Versatile music and musicians are the key to keeping people happy, interested, and socially interactive in the United States of America. That is David Mack's Job!
