Southpaw Jones was born Chuck Jones, but so were a lot of people, so he changed his name. Hailing from Houston, Texas, having spent the past five years in Nashville, Tennessee, and currently living in Los Angeles, California, the twenty-four-year-old has seen his share of adventure and artistic output.
Once he received an uncle's acoustic Japanese guitar for Christmas his junior year of high school, the songs started flowing. Since then, he's built up his own web site (www.southpawjones.com), released three independent CDs, and even toured a bit between college semesters and other adolescent entanglements. Southpaw arrived in August 2000 to explore the LA coffeehouse scene, which he has found to be a fertile field for the seeds that are the lyrics and melodies of his music.
With unforgettable songs like White Boy Blues, Words & Music, and Freshly-Picked Flower that mix humor, heartache, and social commentary, Southpaw is on the verge of finding his niche in America, whose people are hungry for something to chew on, not just swallow.
Catch him playing his five-string upside-down guitar in Los Angeles or on one of his self-made mini-tours. |
