| Simply Waiting plays a type of music most easily defined as Acoustic Rock, or Emo. With labels aside, the music remains passionate, honest, and easy to relate to. |

Simply Waiting is the side project of Waking Kills The Dreams' enigmatic singer, the bass player from Twelve Tribes and three of their comrades. Though one would expect this quintet to deliver more of the driving metal-core we've come to expect from these boys, to my pleasant surprise, Simply Waiting crafts an altogether different blend of math rock. This band expertly mixes velvety vocals, warm angular finger picking, atmospheric keyboards and creative jazz-sensible rhythm. The vocal sound is roughly akin to Hankshaw while the musically delivery lands in Matt Pond PA's backyard. Their sound is confident and mature, which allows the players' patient melodies to stay controlled and restrained or to crest gloriously. Though I'm sure that the kids will throw comparisons to a certain Vagrant Records acoustic wunderkid around over the next few months, Simply Waiting's live show was filled with more contrast, passion and honesty than I've seen from almost any national act with a similar beautiful and bleery-eyed modus operandi. -by Tim Anderl www.bettawreckonize.com |
