It all began in November of 1998 when Karl and Conor two friends from Elk Grove High School started writing songs for a church praise band. Out of those sessions came the band's first songs Save Me, Haunted and Fear. With reluctance from the praise band to play these original songs they decided to form their own band. In December of 1998 they asked Matt a family friend to play bass and Derek another friend from Elk Grove to play drums. They started playing gigs at churches under the name Rugged Cross(after the old hymn "The Old Rugged Cross") but after finding another band with the same name they changed their name to Silent Horizon. After a year and a half they had recorded a five song EP and played at such venues as Bo Jangles, Big Shots, Old Ironsides and various churches. At that time also Derek left the band for good but a few weeks later Aaron was recruited to be the drummer. Aaron was a perfect match for Silent Horizon's sound. Everything just seemed to click with him. In July of 2000, a month after Aaron joined the band, they went up to Stevenson, WA to play a festival called Tom Fest with 150 other bands. While the time they played (10:00 am on a Saturday) didn't draw a huge crowd it was still a good experience. After playing at more clubs and churches, the band grew into a tighter sound and created some of their best songs like No One's Talking and Don't Say Goodbye. With two more recording sessions they had a 10 song CD. Cover work was done by Matt's girlfriend and they released their first album Dreams Come True. Three years after their inception they are still entertaining audiences with their modern rock sound and their high energy live shows. Not only are they ready to take on the Christian music world but they are actively pursuing their dream of being able to bring their music before a whole generation of both believers and non-believers.
Silent Horizon's goal is to praise and worship God through our music. Our music is aimed toward struggling Christians and non-believers of all ages. We feel that our music comes across at a deep and personal level. All of our songs are based on our own experiences and struggles with God and Christianity as we get them. We express our own questions and feelings with an open attitude towards life as it is seen through the eyes of the rising generations of Christians. We strive to bring ourselves closer to God and achieve a spiritual level of purity and oneness with the Lord Jesus Christ, but always fall one time or another. As we face our sins and imperfections, we take our intense feelings and turn them into what we feel are solid confessional and easy songs that both non-believers and Christians alike can listen to and feel at ease with. We, like all Christians want to reach as many unsaved people as possible as well as try to help people who are struggling with the same issues as we are. We want to show them that they are not alone, even if they feel they are. We know, as well as anybody else, that it is easy to forget that God's loving hand is always with us. We hope that with that attitude in mind, we can reach a whole new wave of born again Christians from every generation, and glorify God's purpose for the band in the process.
1). To bring a new way of looking at our individual walks with God and the struggle to be closer to Him. 2). To follow our dreams of playing our music, doing what we honestly feel is God's task for us in this world. 3). To remind ourselves as well as the rest of the world that even in our darkest times we are not alone. 4). To continue to spread His word through our music 5). And ultimately praise him for the wonderful things that he has done in each of our lives. |
