If you want to see fire, explosions, caged women and dragons flying from the P.A, drop some acid...if you want to see fornicating primates, go to the zoo. But if you want to see a truly original performance that will leave you more perplexed than you ever intended, come see Pilot. The musical concept for the band started in 1997 when guitarist Adam Scott wrote 7 simple acoustic songs. But during the recordings, decisions were made to add a "full band" to the music, thus creating the first Pilot EP (although after much consideration the Obo solos and back-up singing cheickens were voted out). Once the CD came out Adam then decided to hire 2 completely arbitrary musicians to play his music live. After picking names out of a hat he decided on hard core metal bassist Chris Boshis and psychedelic drummer Rich Schweitzer, and finally the band was formed in June 1999. Once they began rehearsing the songs they quickly realized they needed something to spice up the live atmosphere. So although the CD is acoustically driven (and they do perform acoustic sets in certain venues) they decided to go mainly electric and just rock out! (note: this decision was made after a live polka jam caused the band to be hospitalized for several weeks). Pilot then began creating more diverse material, and put together a live show that was more or less worthy of the open road. So remember, if you find yourself at a Pilot show, don't expect big hair, flaming guitars, or any variety of spiked clothing. The Pilot concept is simple...always have fun, don't be an idiot, and always provide fresh fruit to your loving fans at every show. Enjoy! |
