The unfathomable rollercoaster that was MINDSTAB began around June 1996: Dan McCullough, Aric Armbruster & Andy Ridings being the founding members. The trio of teenaged delinquents were in a band called BROKEN (who disbanded after 1 lousy show.) Dan left MindStab after about a month to form TOWHEAD. As a result of Dan's departure they drafted Chuck Sheppard to play bass. TowHead & MindStab played together on occasion (just for the hell of it.) Then on January 3, 1997 Dan received a call from Aric & Chuck asking him if he could sit in for Andy on drums at rehearsal. Dan agreed then it was all over...Andy got fired-Dan got rehired to play drums instead of bass (ironic, huh?) The three guys went to work on playing shows @ local clubs for about 30 kids (give or take) & they released a demo entitled "Exit A." About a half a year later they decided to recruit Deno Corazzi to play bass & he instantly clicked with MindStab's "off-the-hook" style. Chuck got bumped to rhythm guitar & vocals. They (out of nowhere) started getting local exposure like crazy. First, they played with a couple well-known Pittsburgh bands (Wade, Buzz Poets) then, they landed a shitload of more shows around the Pittsburgh area. They also got themselves into a few of the local newspapers, people would begin contacting them for future bookings due to their increasing popularity & outragously crazy stage performance (not to mention their style of music 'Nirvana being raped by the Doughboys'.) MS then released a 5 song ep simply called "Time For Nothin'" in April of 1998. They also received a plaque from "The Valley Independent" newspaper for being in their paper like 3 times in 2 weeks. Their club of choice to gig at was Club Rockers in Charleroi PA (hell, they'd play there once a month). But eventually the inner turmoil between the members finally erupted & they played their last show on May 30, 1998.
UPDATE: After about 2 1/2 years of claiming to never speak to each other again they finally broke the silence & agreed to squash the beef. There are no plans of a reunion, however they do have a new cd coming out on Faceless Music (Dan's new label). It is so brilliantly titled "KOKNBALZ". It showcases a few live shows, some unplugged stuff & a lot of stuff never released before. It's definately something worth checking out even if you weren't around to capture the bands pure beauty at their peak. "When life was simple."
Aric Armbruster: Guitar, Vox Chuck Sheppard: Vox, Guitar Dan McCullough: Drums, Vox Deno Corazzi: Just Played Bass
*Listen to the MP3's & contact Faceless Music. You have 2 choices...a) tell them that MS sucks & should've quit before they began or b) MS should start playing shows again 'cos they were the shit!!! |

"Damn right! Give 'em a hand...you never know who's playing bass, who's playing guitar, who's playing drums. What the f**k is goin' on?! It's like watching 4 different bands at once." -Andy St. John (WADE) |
