Right when you think you can put this band in specific genre you hear another song that takes you somewhere else. Kelly Zirbes, the female lead vocalist has been holding Kelly's Lot together for the last 4 years. She has finally found the right combination of players to make this a winning sound. "This singer-songwriter has a true artistic vision, and she presents her intriguing music with subtle power and steel-like conviction. Labels should definitely take a listen, because she's more than ready. Besides, anyone who includes an electrified version of Melanie's 1971 Number One hit "Brand New Key"shows that she's going to do things her way. Speaking of that cut, film music supervisors might be interested in giving her a call, as well. This lady has what it takes.

"Kelly's Lot makes a statement right out of the blocks with "Black and Blue". Crisp, clear and precise vocals only head the songs. Backing Kelly Zirbes up is Thomas Richter on lead, Sebastian Sheehan on drums, Chris Robertson on Bass and Perry Robertson on Rhythm. Perry's production completely shows through - it's not often that all the instruments/percussion are heard on every track. TEST DRIVE does not have a bad track, just degrees of greatness. "Just You" is a wonderful change of pace from the first two tracks, more southern rock than the heavy country/folk influences of the album. But, let's not stop there! For example, "Love Has Wings" is very melodic and the lyrics are thoughtful and inspiring. "Living Inside Her" is proof positive of what Miss Zirbes and Kelly's Lot can do - a total crossover of genres. From southern rock to ska to pop, this song has it all! Last, but not least, is "Back to L.A.". The addition of Bill Johnston on saxophone shows the band's willingness to explore their creative ideas. And just when you thought you heard it all comes "Close My Eyes". It has an old world flamingo flavor that puts you into the streets of Madrid."

"From the get-go the tracks of "Test Drive" take me for a spin. Kelly Zirbes sings with such passion and it's especially noted in one of my faves, "Just You". Then there's "Joan of Arc", that sounds like early Melissa Etheridge with a country flair. The band has such a tight sound. Take a Test Drive today. You'll be glad you did cuz this band is going places.

Listening to the CD the first thing you notice is Kelly's style. Kelly's vocals are crisp, clear, and very unique. Kelly's Lot has a certain blues/rock flavor to it. The first track "Black & Blue" has a really well recorded guitar to accompany Kelly's soothing voice. The song almost sounds like Bonnie Raitt in her earlier days. Our personal favorite song was "Close My Eyes". This song has a Spanish style guitar and whistling on it. The spooky overtone is the kind of stuff that is destined for radio airplay. Kelly's Lot is a great album to listen to while having a few friends over for a couple of beers. We enjoyed "Test Drive" and are certain that you will too.

Kelly's Lot is a guitar-based rock band from Los Angeles fronted by Kelly Zirbes, a vivacious singer whose crystal clear voice brings to mind Annie Wilson of Heart. Kelly's Lot gives off a kind of California blue-collar vibe. It's refreshing to hear a new group play melodic, no-nonsense rock, as opposed to the deliberately muddled alternative sludge that dominates today's rock mainstream. Zirbes is a spirited vocalist, and the interplay between guitarists Thomas Richter and Perry Robertson impresses throughout.

Kelly Zirbes and Kelly's Lot remain a mystery to me. I mean, if labels are seeking talent based on looks, why isn't Kelly Zirbes signed? If labels are seeking talent based on originality, why isn't she signed? And if labels are truly seeking talent that is full of talent why isn't Kelly's Lot signed? Kelly's Lot – "Test Drive", is one of the best rides I've ever experienced through alternative rock! Kelly Zirbes, an incredible vocalist and accomplished guitarist is gifted with the ability to make you feel what she's feeling. Her vocals are bluesy and gutsy as portrayed on the track "Living Inside Her", sensitive and seductive on song titled "Love has Wings" and heart–felt and emotional in "Broken Man". The "Lot" behind Kelly is equally as impressive and performs as follows: Thomas Richter on lead guitar; Sebastian Sheehan on drums/percussion; Perry Robertson – rhythm and lead guitar and Chris Robertson locking down the bass. Together, they're unstoppable and headed straight for a Grammy! This CD is a must have for music connoisseurs and is quite the compliment to true musicianship. The only thing left to say is "...and the winner is Kelly's Lot.
