In the small amount of time that Georgia Avenue has been together, they have accomplished Big things. This dynamic group of musicians have been traveling the east coast playing live shows and promoting there debut release Streets Divided while being full time students at James Madison University and Bridgewater College, both in the Harrisonburg, VA area. The band, although young, has started a grassroots following, fueled by their determination to play every night possible and spread their music as wide as possible. Georgia Avenue plays 100+ dates a year bringing their energized acoustic rock to college campuses and clubs from New York to Georgia and out to Illinois.
The beginning of the band brought Jeff Grant and Sean Runyon playing acoustic coffee shops in the fall of 1999 promoting Jeff's solo demo, Enough. Early 2000 brought the addition of Chris Bruno and Mac Bubb to the mix. By the time fall came around the band had picked up keys player Tyler Cash and were ready to hit the road. Five students left their college lives behind to give the project all they had. After only being together for 4 months, the band decided to record their first full-length album at Cue Studios in Falls Church, VA. Released in February 2001, Streets Divided has independently sold over 6,500 copies.
Spring of 2001 brought many new surprises for the band. The band released their first album, and set out a rigorous touring schedule playing 10+ dates a month while still taking classes. Late in the spring they signed with More Music Group for all their booking duties. Since then the band has appeared with artists such as The Marshall Tucker Band, Counting Crows, Better Than Ezra, Rod Stewart, The Pat McGee Band, and good friends, Virginia Coalition. Their college fan base has grown at a rapid rate as the band continues to enter new markets and write new music.
Fall of 2001 has been the bands most challenging time so far. The loss of Tyler in late summer and the biggest touring schedule to date began to haunt the band. The addition of Pete Geiger on the keys though, brought a new sense of direction and confidence to the group. After long time friend and musician Mac Bubb decided to leave the band, John Little stepped in as the new bass player with out losing a beat. The band has long been in pursuit of the right fit, and finally has found the right group of musicians for their world domination. |
