Live! Out of the Ordinary Review
La Hora del Blues Radio
A good record of dancing appealing joyful blues, where singer and guitar player Dennis McClung cleverly leads his band on a live recording from the Ordinary Club in Clarksburg, West Virginia. A selection of twelve ‘classic' blues, where he pays homage to blues heros like Louis Jordan, Elmore James, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Rogers, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Bo Diddley, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Albert Collins, Magic Sam or Lowell Fulson. In every song they perform they emphatise with the ‘original real sound' the technique of the great masters passing their spirit on a no catch album where prevails the soul and feeling of the most electrified original diversified blues coming from such different areas like Texas or Chicago. VERY GOOD.

Bluessource review of "Live! Out of the Ordinary"
Gary W. Miller - www.bluessource.com
I first met Dennis McClung at the Heritage Blues Festival, in Wheeling, WV. I loved the band, and I came to understand that they might be the ONLY Blues band in WV. I doubt that's true, but it certainly was that day. They Boogie, and I must say that I felt good listening to them. This new CD, which is a live version of their club act, is a true representation of what they sound like and how they play the Blues. I think it's one of the best live performances they have done, albeit over two nights. It is a grand representation of how a Blues band gets through the night - playing the tunes that the fans love. Only one original tune here, "Touch of the Delta" is a slide show on guitar which whips the crowd away from their talking and carousing and puts their feet firmly in the Delta tradition. I love how that happens to the crowd. No politics, no celebrity, no bad news, no failed love - the Dennis McClung Blues Band puts you on that perfect level.

When you go hear a Blues group play, what are you thinking? I gotta hear something new? I gotta hear some revolution! Well, McClung plays the great tunes that make up the Blues, from forefathers from Chicago, Southern Soul, Delta slide, and jumping music that spells out what all Blues fans want to hear. McClung version of "How Blue Can You Get" is ominous. I love the Blues when it leaves the crowd speechless. Great stuff! This CD has all of that and more. There's real talent coming to the forefront in this ban. The band is made up of Dennis McClung, on guitar & vocals, Jason Corder on Bass and Vocals, Randy Franklin on keyboards and vocals, and Linny Merchant on Drums & vocals. They weigh heavily. I love the way they play the Blues. From Jimmy Rogers, T-Bone Walker. Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters. BB King and others, this CD ROCKS!

Dennis is a mighty fine guitar maestro, and he just keeps getting better. Listen to "Jelly, Jelly" and you'll know what I'm talkin' about. When you hear a guitar player go from "average" to "beautiful" that's a great leap. Really, that's what this CD is about - Dennis McClung is really playing great guitar. Let this live CD light up your attitude. Go get it now and pray that there are guys that understand the Blues and are willing and able to play it. I just like it simple, but I like it true. That is the truth about this Dennis McClung. Buy it now! It's available on CDBaby.com and Bandvillage.com. Scoop this CD up! Party with the Folks!
