Dana Marie always considered her music to be “Country”, but with the direction that genre has recently taken she finds herself amongst an elite few of quality singer songwriters. She has been compared to traditional artists such as Dolly Parton as well as modern chart toppers like Norah Jones. Having grown up in Northern Ohio, Dana moved to Nashville immediately after she graduated high school to fulfill her one dream... to be a star. In her two years in Music City Dana has shied away from becoming another Broadway Bar Girl, and instead put her focus in writing and making connections in the music business. One of these connections was legendary producer Jim Vest who told her “You sing as pretty as you look, and there's no greater compliment than that.”
Dana has currently put together her first press kit which includes a copy of her three song demo recorded by Vest. The songs were recorded with only an acoustic guitar backing her, keeping all of the focus on her powerful voice and intricate writing. Dana plans to rerecord these songs with other originals for an upcoming album in 2006.
Growing up in Ohio Dana lived the life of a superstar. Being a huge fish in a tiny pond, Dana was a local celebrity who sang regularly at professional sporting events, large churches, and other social atmospheres. Upon her arrival in Nashville she began to find out that she was not the only person out there with the “total package.” Her stunning looks and striking voice would only get her so far, so Dana continued to focus on her writing. She knew that if one thing could set her apart from the herd of female country artists of today, it would be her writing. With influences from Patsy Cline to Patty Griffin Dana's songs contain an emotional sense of timelessness with an edge of modern expression.
When you hear Dana's music you can see what she sees. You will feel what she feels. You will respond the same way Jim Vest responded the first time he heard her, “I'm a fan already!” |
