Artist Bio
Even in the beggining as a punk rock teen in Johannesburg, South Africa, Caron Bernstein was no face in the crowd. Photographer Patsy Dunn asked Caron to take test photos for her portfolio and was so moved by the results that she sent them to the New York headquarters of Ford models. This opened the door to a new career and America. While with the Ford Agency, Caron won their Supermodel of the World contest. There was only one problem ...... modeling was never Caron's dream.

So it all began...

On a chance meeting , Caron was introduced to legendary recording mogul Seymour Stein. It was Stein who tapped into Caron's dream. He had to ask only one question... "Can she sing?" Yes! All Caron ever wanted to do was to sing her heart out. Stein signed Caron to an album deal with Sire. But this album was produced without a direction that really represented Caron, and was not released. She would have to go back to the drawing board.

Caron realized that she needed to develop her own unique style. Inspired by all her punk rock heros as a teen, Caron looked to pioneers like Bowie, Iggi Pop, Bauhaus, and Annie Lennox. They were innovative and constantly evolving their style. She drew from their ability to evoke powerful emotions with a raw edge. Carons new songs reflect these visions. A developed and confident singer-songwriter was surfacing in the East Village.

Caron hit the downtown NYC music circuit looking to form a band. She worked with several line ups until she met Chris Feinstein. Caron and Chris immediatly connected musically and their songs came to life. They then brought their demos to producer Michael Tudor and struck a production deal with his company, Alchematic. Tudor's vision was so like theirs that the recording process was a synergy of their shared influences and love for technical experimentation. The sessions resulted in the songs available here.

Caron calls her music "Dark Pop", but the infectious melody and hooks tend more towards the "Pop". The alternative sound of the recordings feature heavy guitar layers and ambient sonic soundscapes. Carons vocals are lush and sexy. Her lyrics are sometimes dark and satrical. "Hollywood" pokes fun at an entertainment industry that takes itself too seriouly. "Tell Templeton" draws from her brothers torment and pain that led to his suicide at the age of 26.

When asked about her ever expanding vision of music and herself as an artist, Caron laughs, "Future super rock stardom and millions of dollars are only around the corner."
