Blackfly is the culmination of over six years experimentation in art and music. Beginning in 1994 with a local band known as “Lost Cause” Blackfly has evolved into an underground sensation amongst the fans of the Gothic and Punk rock genres. With roots in both classic guitar rock and more experimental styles (i.e. The Beatles, The Doors, etc.) Blackfly seems to have fused several musical genres into one uniquely his own.
As the front man for the Ohio Valley regional group “Victorian Quartz”, Blackfly has played a variety of venues from the newly renovated 19th century theatre “The Majestic” in Historic Downtown Chillicothe, Ohio, to the underground fetish scene of the campus of Ohio State University and many other halls, basements and venues along the way.
A style of music often refered to as “Glitter Punk” and/or “Techno Gothic” , Blackfly's revolutionary music blends hypnotic and haunting lyrics with psychadelic keyboards or thundering drums and guitar. Appearing to be a sweet if somewhat confused and depressed boy, Blackfly sings softly the lyrics of the ballad “Deltitnu” to the unsuspecting audience when the lights dim towards the end of the song and explode brilliantly bursting into the guitar driven madness that is “David” , a schizophrenic voyage into the feeling we all have felt towards our lovers.
Selling and self promoting his independent releases on his website, www.victorian-quartz.8m.com, Blackfly receives fanmail from across the United States, as well as, over seas. The site receives around thirty hits a day. Which in and of itself does not sound like a lot, but considering this site is not listed on a major internet search engine and is mostly promoted through word of mouth amongst his fans is truly a great accomplishment. |
