Anglo-Australian songwriting team Helene Dineen and Graham Gargiulo formed Barefoot Contessa in 1994. They received immediate critical acclaim and have impressed with each new song, line-up and recording since. "haunting, femme-voiced folk rock in a beautiful Mazzy Star vein" (Magnet, USA) "moody, sophisticated indie-country, a twisted knife in the heart of anyone who is won over by volume alone. The effect is gorgeously hypnotic" (NME, UK) "un ethereal dream pop caramellato da una buona voce femminile" (Vida, Italy) "bitter sentiments about betrayal and bewilderment behind deceptively delicate guitar melodies...Barefoot Contessa could creep up quietly and win a place in the darkest part of your heart. Provided they don't kill each other first, that is." (Melody Maker, UK) "Vocalist Helene is a chanteuse who seems to know the untrodden paths that connect Patsy Cline to Patti Smith" (Hot Press, Ireland) |
