| Backslap is a 4 piece outfit from Brooklyn NY that wield the power of early Biohazard and Rage Against the Machine on their new album, "FIND YOURSELF." A very crispy sound is a staple of this quartet, from the snap of the drums to the crunch of the guitars. With surprisingly melodic vocals, BACKSLAP do the trick if you like heavy music that isn't stupifying, but instead encourages head bobbing and banging and perhaps a windmill or two. Armed with tight breakdowns, Backslap aren't a one dimensional hardcore scream-a-thon. Instead, they mix the power of hardcore with some hard rock elements to create a solid fist raising experience. |

If I had to describe this album in one sentence, my explanation would be as follows: It's raw, hardcore music sung by a very pissed-off and militant vocalist. The guitar comes off like so many razor blade slices and the bass sound is very in-your-face. The hardcore style that came to mind was that of Biohazard and Sworn Enemy.
I thought the album highlights were “Isolate, “Find Yourself, “Strive, and “Effort.” The band must have had George W. Bush and the military on the brain when making the album because the President's voice is heard more than once. In fact, samples of George's speeches are heard on both “Strive,” which has some great militant vocals and galloping bass lines, as well as “Everything.” Another politician (can't remember which one) is heard saying that we should “bomb the hell out of them” and not worry about “collateral damage.” It's powerful stuff. If you like hardcore, you can't go wrong with this album.
